Journalists working under local Italian contracts at Agence France-Presse’s offices in Rome, Milan and Turin, in all its text, photo and video departments, will go on strike from Friday, October 21 at 7am until Sunday October 23 at 7am.

We are striking due the lack of a satisfactory response from the Agency’s management to our requests over the past several weeks for a substantial increase in our salaries in the face of galloping inflation which, according to the latest figures, has reached almost 9% on an annual basis in Italy, the highest level in the last 40 years.

We call on AFP to take immediate action by coming to the negotiating table and to compensate for the loss of purchasing power we have suffered in recent months.

The editorial assembly will continue to mobilize journalists after the strike of October 21 and 22. Assemblies including other staff categories, in agreement with the Italian National Union, will be held immediately after the 23rd of October and will continue until we obtain an increase in our salaries commensurate with changes in the cost of living.

SUD expresses its solidarity with the Italian colleagues, who are rightly fighting for inflation to be offset by higher wages.
